Yes! Yes! Yes!
Conceived and choreographed by Mark Schmidt + Remi Harris featuring a live DJ set by DJ Krunk Pony
Yes! Yes! Yes! explores notions of democratic dance spaces, relationships, and the ethics of freedom. Together Mark Schmidt + Remi Harris find a play between camp, performance and the joy in movement while attempting to capture the parallel and intersecting paths of a dynamic creative process. Based on a research project on the 1970’s underground discotech The Loft, they explore how this dance sanctuary became a safe haven for New York’s LGBTQ community living on the margins of society, many of whom were Black and Latino. Yes! Yes! Yes! is an exercise in visibility surrounded and inspired by shared feelings of community, support and acceptance that make house dance parties so special. Taking stock of today’s current events, Mark and Remi are searching for ways to get people dancing and collectivising. They offer viewers an opportunity to revisit those moments of shared joy; the discovery of a space to be completely yourself surrounded by others in affirmation. By exploring the cultural norms of this particular social dance and how bodies relate to each other, they facilitate conversations around spaces that are designed by and for POC’s and Queer folks. Yes! Yes! Yes! is alive, celebratory, playful, no drama, joyful, and full of laughter.
